Q6. What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?

In this task I have created a powtoon video where I write about the new forms of technologies that I used whilst in the process of constructing my magazine such as different Web 2.0 Tools and various electronics.

In this task I created a canvas presentation explaining how I attracted my audience by designing my magazine a specific way, as well receiving audience feedback from my target audience and how I applied their opinions to my final tasks.

In this task I have created a presentation about who would distribute my magazine. The publisher that I have chose is Bauer, I have spoken about he company itself as well as where I would distribute my magazine and whether I want it to be global or national.

I have used prezi for this task, to describe how my front cover, contents page and double page spread follow the typical conventions of a pop magazine.

This is my final double page spread,  I have followed the typical conventions of a pop magazine in order to grab the attention of my target audience.

This is my final front cover, I have been researching and looking at different pop music magazines, as well as getting feedback from my target audience on what features they would like to see on my front cover.

Process of creating my Double Page Spread

For my Double Page Spread, I decided to cut out my image of Libby and place her on a recording studio background. I did this to make my page stand out and look different,  as well making it fit in with the genre of my magazine. I also added the same colours that I had used for my front cover and contents page to show consistency, this is because if i had changed the colours they would not fit in with the rest of my magazine. I also decided to use a quote, to follow the typical conventions of a DPS, and to pull in the reader and makes them want to read on. 

Processing of creating my Contents Page

Although I had made a brief draft for my contents page, when it came to designing it I kept changing the layout and colours because I wanted the page to look like similar to other music magazine and suit the pop genre, as well this I wanted to follow the correct conventions. I started off with bright colours, as pop is always vibrant therefore I used bright pink, however I decided this type of pink was too young and didn't suit my target audience. As well as this, the grey washed out the page and made it look too dull, this didn't suit the pop genre as the colours are meant to stand out on the page and catch the readers eye. Therefore I played around with different colours and decided to use a more subtle pink which would appeal more to my age group. I also decided to use yellow because it automatically gets the readers attention as it is bright and stands out. These two colours work well together and still fit the pop genre. I also used black for my content, because visually the content in black looks the best.

Process of creating my Front Cover

For my first front cover, I started by using very dull colours which didn't suit the genre of my magazine. As I was making a pop magazine, the colours needed to be bright and stand out to my readers. Instead, I made the cover look boring and didn't follow the conventions of what a pop front cover should look like. I received feedback from my teachers, telling me that my background should be colourful and that the light grey washed out the model. As well as this my fonts did not fit my genre, they didn't catch the eye of the reader and didn't make the front cover look exciting to read.
Therefore I decided to re start my front cover and choose a different colour theme. I used a peachy pink for my background, and cut out my model so she wasn't on a grey background. This automatically changed the look of my front cover would grab the attention of my target audience. I then found a different colour that went well with the pink, which was yellow. Yellow stands out against any background and is a warm colour, which is generally energising and makes the page more lively. Furthermore I changed my fonts, and chose one that would stand out to my reader and make my front cover more exhilarating to read. I changed my magazine front cover because I wanted to follow the typical conventions of a pop magazine and I felt like I hadn't done this due to the colours and fonts I had used.

Font

In this task, I have shown my target audience the different fonts I have researched and asked which ones they liked the most for my magazine.

From this feedback I have decided to use Font 2 because the majority of my target audience favoured this font and said its bold and will stand out in my magazine. I have also decided to use Font 13 because I favour it and so does my target audience. It is different and will catch the readers eye, it is also a very feminine font which is who I am targeting my magazine at.

Potential front cover, content pages and double page spread photos

In this task I have taken some potential pictures for my front cover, content page and double page spread. I have asked my target audience which photos they like the best and would be the the most suitable for my magazine.

I have received feedback from my target audience and used the images that they liked the most. I used Image 8 for my front cover as my target audience said they wanted to see it on my magazine, I used it because she looks trendy and is addressing the reader. I also used Image 10 for my contents page as my target audience favoured this and said it will engage the reader as she looks happy and smiley. Lastly I used 13 for for my double page spread, but cropped the image and placed her on a different background, I used this image because my target audience said they liked it and I should use it somewhere on my magazine because she is wearing a different outfit.

Cover Line Ideas

For this task I used survey monkey to get feedback from my audience on which cover line they thought was best to use on my front cover of my Pop magazine. Using my feedback, it was clear that 4 of my cover lines were the most popular. 

However in the process of making my magazine front cover, I started by using the cover lines "Win a pop stars holiday", "Hot party looks" and 'This week top 10 hits". After doing this I decided these cover lines did not make my magazine suit the pop genre and in order to make it look more like a music magazine I changed my cover lines and only decided to keep "This week top 10 hits!" as it suited my genre of the magazine.

I decided to change my cover lines to "Win an exclusive backstage pass" and "Scandalous secrets on tour" as it immediately displayed that my magazine was pop. Also these cover lines are suitable for my target audience as they are similar to the ones I got feedback from, therefore  will still appeal to my consumers.
